MyBrickZ

Welcome to MyBrickZ

New year, new site! This took a lot longer than I was hoping - setting up a website from scratch is a lot of work, especially when you decide that none of current CMSs out there are suitable and you have to roll your own. But enough about the state of the modern web.

The real reason you are here is to celebrate your love of the bricks! If you're like me, you have been playing with them since the 1970s. Maybe you're not that old, but you still can't remember a time before there were little plastic bricks in the world. I'm at that stage in life where I outgrew them, but kept my collection, and then had fun all over again playing with them with my kids (who are now approaching the age where they will soon find other things to occupy their time).

Of course, there is no longer such a stigma associated with adults who indulge their passion for the bricks. Things have changed, and having this as a hobby no longer raises as many eyebrows as it once did, which is good. Also, Lego has long since lost its monopoly on the brick market, so there are lots of alternatives available (albeit sometimes of inferior quality) and that makes the hobby sometimes cheaper and sometimes more interesting. I only mention it because I'm not a purist when it comes to bricks, although I do not, under any circumstances, mix Lego and non-Lego bricks - what kind of savage do you think I am?

This site is going to serve as a repository to capture things about my hobby that I think others will find interesting. Because even though I've been playing with Lego for over 50 years, the community is constantly evolving and there is always something new to learn.

I hope you enjoy your visit here and learn a few things yourself. Explore the site, and also follow me on Pixelfed.
